01

Be clear about the business.

Your website should plainly explain the services, business name and real market served. Important facts should agree across the site and public profiles. When business information is inconsistent or hidden in an image, it is harder for both customers and search systems to interpret. This is a practical information problem before it is a new marketing label.

02

Give discovery something useful to work with.

Keep useful content in accessible HTML, link related pages and avoid accidentally blocking legitimate search crawlers. Google’s guidance for its AI features points back to established SEO practices rather than special AI markup. OpenAI also documents a search crawler separately from its training crawler. Access decisions should be deliberate; allowing a crawler does not guarantee inclusion.

03

Answer real questions with specific information.

Explain the work you do, how assessment happens and what a customer needs to know before contacting you. Prefer a detailed, accurate service explanation to dozens of generic articles. For commercial cleaning, that could mean how a site walkthrough establishes scope. For a landscaper, it could mean a real project description that explains the brief and work completed.

04

Keep structured data honest.

Machine-readable markup can describe an organization, service or article where the visible page supports it. It is not evidence of expertise by itself. Do not invent reviews, locations or business credentials. There is no special schema that guarantees an AI recommendation, and there is no dependable universal “number one” AI position.

05

Review observations without overstating them.

Answers can vary across prompts, platforms and time. Record what was asked and what appeared, and treat that as an observation rather than a stable rank. Website referrals and real inquiries provide additional context where available. Useful measurement is explicit about its limits, especially when the search experience is changing.

06

Keep a small observation log.

Choose a few questions a potential customer would actually ask. Record the platform, exact wording, date, location context and sources cited. Check whether the answer names the correct business and services. Use mistakes to identify unclear public information, not to calculate a universal AI ranking. Compare any identifiable referrals with real inquiries; a citation is not a booked job.
